Progress in Review: Lakeland Holding/Parry Sound – July 20, 2018
Lakeland Holding is 100% municipally owned by Parry Sound, Bracebridge, Huntsville, Burk’s Falls, Sundridge and Magnetawan.Lakeland Holding consists of the following subsidiary companies; Lakeland Power, Bracebridge Generation and Lakeland Energy/Networks.The company is governed by an independent Board of Directors appointed by Shareholders.
On May 11, 2018 the Cascade Falls Generating Station officially re-opened. Bracebridge Generation staff alongside contractors, Wasauksing First Nation, government representatives and Lakeland Holding team members, celebrated the official re-opening.
The 1.21MW Cascade Falls Generating Station located on the Seguin River in Parry Sound underwent a redevelopment to 3.1 MW.Bracebridge Generation operates 11 control structures/ dams throughout this watershed under the Seguin River Simplified Water Management Plan. The newly upgraded plant, at a cost of $17M, supplies approximately 1100 homes with their electrical energy demands.In late Fall 2018 Bracebridge Generation will open the doors to the public to participate in a facility tour.Further details pertaining to the open house will be communicated later in the year.
Lakeland Holding’s subsidiary companies are enhancing their online presence, including website redevelopment.Most recently Lakeland Power lakelandpower.on.ca and Bracebridge Generation bracebridgegeneration.comlaunched their new websites.The sites offer more online services and information, ranging from Lakeland Power’s outage map to Bracebridge Generation’s Watershed Bulletins.Lakeland welcomes customer feedback and is happy to review features to ensure a high level of customer service continues to be met.
Lakeland Power’s crews are busy replacing aged poles throughout the Town of Parry Sound.Lakeland crews will replace wires and transformers converting to 12.5Kv on Parry Sound Rd from Great North Rd to the railroad tracks.Lakeland will also replace poles and wires on Isabella St at Tudhope St, replace poles on Waubeek St at Prospect St for water main work and perform substation maintenance in MS4 on Church Lane.If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Lakeland Power’s conservation departmentcontinues to work with local businesses to complete energy efficient projects through the Save on Energy Retrofit program. These projects include rooftop units on the Mall, the new chiller unit at the West Parry Sound Health Centre, and many different lighting upgrades.
Parry Sound businesses have taken advantage of the no-cost Small Business Lighting Program, and Lakeland is pleased to introduce a similar program called the Business Refrigeration Incentive Program. Assessors will be in the area soon to discuss the program and incentives available. Although we’re not anywhere near fall yet, the Fall Deal Days event dates were just announced: through October, residents can save in-store on energy efficient products for their home. Watch for the ads!
