PAST & PRESENT

Before the year 2000, each municipality had its own not for profit hydro-electric commission. Seeing that there were approximately 320 hydro-electric commissions at this time the ruling Provincial Conservative introduced the Electricity Act so hydro companies became incorporated companies which would force mergers/sales/ and efficiency in the system.

Today there are approximately 65 hydro distribution companies with Lakeland Power being one.

Lakeland’s group of companies has experienced tremendous success over the years and now has assets of $115M on annual revenues of $60M as staff has grown from 22 to 65 full-time. On July 1, 2014 Parry Sound merged their hydro assets in Lakeland and is now one of the company Shareholders along with the other 5 municipalities.
